I just came across this article on A List Apart. An ongoing argument I have and hear at work is about the extent to which web standards should be adhered to. Most of us agree that we would like every page on a site to be fully compliant and validate, for a number of best practice, business and accessibility reasons. However, there are other, more relaxed designers, who think that Standardistas are going over the top and limiting what design can do. After all, who really notices if a page has one or two validation errors, if they don’t impact on usability or page layout?

The article on A List Apart does a wonderful job at explaining how we got to where we are and how all those involved in developing the internet should think about going forwards.
