Glastonbury ticket farce
OK so we did our thing, got our pre-registration numbers after sending in the form with our pretty faces on - to reduce fraud and increase our chances of getting a ticket. Today, April Fools day, there we were - 8.55 - online in 2 houses, on 5 different phones, trying all the options to increase our chances.
The two options - seetickets.com and 0870165200. At 9am neither of these worked. For the last hour, nowt. No connection online, nothing on the phone. In fact, every 5th call we got through to the Chiswick Esporta Club - what the?
Utter madness, the error message on the Glastonbury website said - please do not keep refreshing the page as this will not help anyone. What are we supposed to do? Try the connection once an hour?
They should have the meatiest badass servers in place - we all knew what the demand would be. What cost would have been too much for a solution? £1000s should have been invested. Were seetickets.com prepared?

Even the “we’re busy” page is too busy to say “we’re busy”.

I suppose that is what happens when 400000 beatniks clamber onto the Internet at the same time. Or an example of how it is sometimes a very good idea to predict, plan and pay for usage spikes.

You know when you hit the page and it says connecting to….as soon as you see buys.seetickets….. dont bother waiting…go to the URL and hit http://www.seetickets.com/g2007/ again.

My mate just got his. Had to buy expensive coach tickets though, as the general ones were sold out.

This reminds me why I work at Glastonbury - it means I can avoid this mad rush for tickets! Teasing people with a slow server/badly directed ‘phone line is a mean April fool indeed.

Think I might turn them down this year actually Mr Applecake; hoping to submit the evil thesis end of June so will probably be tearing remaining hairs out by Glasto time. Am going to the Garden Festival in July though (www.thegardenfestival2007.com) - you guys fancy a holiday in Croatia?
