Ah the new Google Streetview for UK has gotten everyone all excited this week, lots of stories about arrests, number plates and sex shop visitors appearing unwillingly on Google Maps. It’s all pretty fun though isn’t it, despite privacy concerns everyone loves looking at their first home, or school, or any other distant memory in full 3D glory.

Way back in 2003 I opened a record shop in Sheffield called Hidden Records. I shut it down a year later, and started my life in the web industry. Sometimes I chat to friends about it, but it is a largely archived memory, one I still view fondly but not very often.

So I couldn’t resist seeing what business or company had taken over the lovely little basement store in Sheffield’s Peace Gardens, next door to Ha Ha Bar…..so I went on Google Streetview to have a look – it’s still there!!!! What 6 years later and nobody has inhabited it? Well not quite…I asked some Sheffielders on Twitter and it turns out that a hairdresser moved in a few months ago, so the Streetview images must be a few months old – but who cares! For me that moment is now captured in time forever! Have a look at the view here – www.tinyurl.com/hiddenrecords
